Oatmeal Jam Bars

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel

2  3-ounce package cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

3/4 cup blackberry jam

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Stir together flour, soda, and salt. Add oats, sugar, and lemon peel. In a small mixing bowl blend cream cheese and butter or margarine; cut into dry ingredients till mixture is crumbly and evenly mixed. Reserve 1 cup of the crumble mixture; pat remaining in bottom of a greased 9x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Meanwhile in small bowl combine jam and lemon juice. Spread over prebaked  crust. Sprinkle with the reserved crumbs. Bake for 15 minutes or till brown. Cool on wire rack; cut into bars.
